Analyzing the correlation between stochastic fracture networks geometrical properties and stress variability: a rock and fracture parameters study

Abstract In this study, the correlation between geometric properties of fracture network and stress variability in a fractured rock was studied. Initially, discrete networks were generated using stochastic approach, then, considering tensorial nature stress, field under various tectonic conditions determined finite-difference method. Ultimately, data analyzed tensor-based mathematical relations. Subsequently, effects four parameters including tensile strength, cohesion, normal stiffness dilation angle on perturbation distribution evaluated. The obtained results indicated that dispersion are directly related to density, which is expressed as number fractures per unit area utilizing window sampling approach. It also demonstrated they inversely power-law length exponent represents fracture. observed distribution, among evaluated parameters, more sensitive negligible. concluded highest created when dense with having high low value.
